What Happened After A Fox Was Hit By A Car Is Unforgettable …And Heartmelting
It was the first c-section performed on a wild fox for this reason.
When a fox was found on the side of the road in Leatherhead, Surrey after being struck by a car, she was rushed to The Wildlife Aid Foundation’s veterinary hospital. And it was there that something happened they won’t soon forget.
She was pregnant.
The initial plan was to nurse the mother back to health, so she could have a natural birth and the whole family could be released back into the wild.
However, after giving birth to one baby, she abandoned it… and it died. The mother was undergoing severe neurological trauma.
Nurses made the decision to perform an emergency c-section to save the rest of the babies. Unfortunately, this meant their mommy didn’t make it.
It was the first c-section performed on a wild fox for this reason.
So far, the remaining 5 babies are still alive and doing well. They’re also believed to be the first foxes born in 2015 since it’s usually not until later in the year when they’re born.
The wonderful people at WAF are hand-feeding them and taking care of them around the clock.
As tragic as this story began, it seems it will have somewhat of a happy ending thanks to those at Wildlife Aid Foundation. Five precious little fox babies will live on. 🙂
