Sidewalk Specials met a puppy named Smouse at Steri Drive 11 fighting infection after having her tail docked at home with a pair of scissors. The young owner was unaware that her uncle’s alterations would have such consequences.
The South African Vet Council has ruled that tail docking is in contravention of the animals protection act, there’s no exclusion for breeders, and vets face being struck off if they carry out the practice for cosmetic reasons!
Smouse is eight weeks old, a small to medium breed female, and she’s fighting an infection from her amateur tail docking but is otherwise healthy.
