He Isn’t Deaf, But Their Dog Doesn’t Respond When Called. Then They Realize This…
Each dog has its own personality. And in the case of Stanley, his parents noticed he was a little different right from the beginning. But his quirks were a little alarming, and mom and dad started to worry about their dog. Stanley is sweet, loving, and physically healthy, but there’s more to the story…
They picked up Stanley from Golden Retriever Rescue Of Mid-Florida and knew he was a little different from the start. When they walked into his foster home, he was sleeping on top of the dining room table.
Despite the quirk, they fell in love with Stanley and took him home. He immediately got along with the kids and other pets.
But they soon became concerned about their new pup. They’ve had success training dogs in the past, but Stanley wasn’t catching on. They started to worry he may hurt himself by climbing onto the tables and counters.

Stanley wouldn’t even respond to his name, but he was not deaf. They hired two trainers, and they both quit. One suggested he may be mentally challenged.
The family took the suggestion seriously and started to study his behavior even more. They noticed an obsessive-compulsive routine of gathering a slipper, remote control, and stuffed animal every single day.
They heard about a Doggy IQ test from a friend and decided to test Stanley. He failed at getting out from under the blanket, responding to his name and finding a treat inside a cup.
Their vet agreed with the assessment and added that Stanley’s challenges could be a result of stubbornness and inbreeding.
They may never know exactly why Stanley acts the way that he does, but it’s nothing to worry about. The dog is physically healthy and surrounded by people and pets who love him.
His owner added, “He may be a bit slow, but his silly quirks, good nature, and odd little personality makes us love him even more.”
I just love that Stanley is getting a fair shake at life regardless of his challenges. All dogs deserve love and happiness! 🙂
